Here's my friend Yuko demonstrating how to order ramen using a ticket vending machine. There are no waiters at these kinds of ramen shops, only a single cook.
There's a giant window on Japanese trains through which you can watch the operator. I was totally fascinated by all the pointing! It turns out this is a safety protocol called "pointing and calling" which engages the operator's brain, eyes, hands, mouth, and ears and has been shown to reduce mistakes by 85% and accidents by 30%!
